Short Walks and Parks
Avon Park
On the banks of the Avon River, Avon Park is a perfect picnic spot. There is a lovely playground for the kids, Free Gas Barbeques, shady trees, picnic tables and seats, and toilet facilities.
Avon Trail
Enjoy the tranquillity of the river reserve and take a 1.5 km stroll down stream to the magnificent permanent pool. The Avon River is one of our great natural assets with a beauty which varies with the season. The raging torrent in the flood time of Midwinter contrasts with the quiet serenity of dried up pools in its bed at the height of summer.
Gwambygine Park
Gwambygine Park is on one of the few remaining permanent pools of the Avon River, just 11 kms south of York. Permanent pools are vital for the survival of local wildlife during Western Australias long, dry summers. A boardwalk and viewing tower will take you right to the river-pool and close to nature without disturbing the environment. The Park is open to the public all year round. Gas barbecues and entry are free courtesy of the Shire of York.
Swing Bridge
The first temporary bridge over the Avon was built by convicts around 1853. The bridge has been rebuilt from time to time and was finally reconstructed in 1988.
