Why has the program changed-Click here to find out
The York Jazz and Soul Festival is a premium WA event for world class artists and jazz fans alike.
Hosted in the proud historic town of York, the vintage atmosphere is the perfect setting to mix seven stages of incredible music with locally produced gourmet food and the infectious buzz of happy people. The streets come alive with all that jazz.
Last year, the new-look York Jazz & Soul Festival presented the best line-up of jazz talent ever assembled in Western Australia. The artist program showcased international, national and local legends, alongside the best emerging jazz talent in Australia. The music styles covered traditional jazz, be-bop, improvisational jazz, modern jazz, dixieland, soul, youth jazz, swing, gospel, funk and nu-jazz.
This year the event will build on the success of 2008 with what has shaped up to be a seriously impressive program. In addition to the musical feast, participants can treat themselves to premium food and beverages, browse the street markets, participate in dancing demos, reminisce over the fine display of vintage motor vehicles, be inspired by jazz-themed art projects for a truly authentic jazz experience.
This vibrant weekend event is held in the middle of October, in the height or wildflower season when Yorkglows in all its spring magic. With a choice of day passes, weekend passes, accommodation and transport options. The York Jazz and Soul Festival is on target to securing a place on the global festival calendar as the coolest destination for an authentic experience of jazz music and entertainment.
Reviews of the 2008 festival
"All the goods bits of the festival were there: beautifully maintained buildings, bustling streets, quirky stage locations; plus the best line up the festival has ever seen. In the space of four hours on Saturday night could be heard the cool jazz singer Vince Jones, guitarist Lior, American Jazz legend John Scofield and acid vibraphone player Roy Ayers"
Rosalind Appleby - The West Australian Oct 22 2008
"It was a pity to leave both York and the festival with a full day remaining as we dozed our way back to P-Town, jealous thoughts of the happy campers we left behind consumed us. I simply cannot wait for next year and am wondering how such a world class line up could possibly be topped. " Gareth Richardson - The Drum Media Oct 23 2008
"The 21st York Jazz and Soul Festival was a lesson in all things jazz, leaving many bewildered at the variety encompassed in the genre. Spread along the main strip of York, festival goers could wander at their leisure through the township. Beautiful weather plenty of seating and shade, relatively clean toilets, rugging up after sunset and a polite atmosphere meant that patrons of all ages could be comfortable from morning to night"
Raciroo - Faster Louder Oct 23 2008
