OUR TOWN
Settled in 1831, York was the first inland settlement of WA. York, Living History, has many restored heritage buildings from the Victorian and Federation era, which add to the charm and character of the town. Stroll down Avon Terrace and live the history, enjoying the fine buildings, and pause to visit some of the world class attractions. We have; museums, galleries and fine cafes. York offers a unique blend of Heritage sites and modern shopping.
The Avon River flows through York and provides Heritage Walks along its banks, with lovely peaceful parks to enjoy.
There is plenty to do in York! Activities in the district include Skydiving, Ballooning, Paragliding, Horse Riding, Swimming, Tennis, Croquet, Golf, Boot-scooting and Old Time Dancing in the magnificent York Town Hall. Visit a wonderful old church, the finely Restored Residency Museum, or the York Motor Museum to see an international collection of vehicles, or simply soak up the atmosphere. A visit to York is not complete without a stop at the Mill Gallery, the largest regional gallery in WA. Here you will see Jah Roc Furniture, winners of the 2002 "Best of the Best" Australian Furniture of the Year Awards, plus host of other beautiful items.
York is also a Festival Town, with Music and Cultural Festivals being held annually. The York Jazz Festival, held in September is Internationally renowned. Many activities also surround the Vintage Motor Vehicles.
