Oliomio Olive & Lavender Farm
The olive grove began in 1996 on a small scale, with the first planting of three different varieties. Having ‘fallen in love’ with the olive, progressive plantings have followed and now total 300 trees, including an experimental area with many cultivars from different parts of the world.
2001 saw our first commercial crop harvested for table olives, tapenade and pure olive oil soap and in 2004 we produced our own olive oil and dukkah under our own brand name "Oliomio Olive and Lavender Farm". Since then the grove has continued to flourish with more varieties coming into production.
To complement our olive products1,000 French Lavender plants were established in 1999/2000. These long- stemmed lavender flowers have been used for the cut flower market. and gift items.
>p> For the lavender enthusiast, two lavender gardens have been added consisting of various English, French, Australian and Spanish varieties.
>p< These fragrant gardens are set around the 'Olive Shop' which showcases our olive and lavender products.
Five different olive cultivars form the basis of the olive grove, selected because of their dual purpose for extra virgin olive oil, table olives, tapenade and dukkah.
>p< No chemicals are used on our trees, which ensures pure, organic fruit at all times.
Makers of pure hand-crafted olive oil soap since 1999, made from pure Western Australian olive oil and using only essential or fragrant oils With no artificial colouring and not tested on animals, the varieties include: Calendula, Lavender, Lemon-scented Gum, Oatmeal and Honey, Rose Geranium, Musk, Parkland Passion, Citrus Surprise, Tawny Rose and Vanilla.

We are a boutique family business producing and selling award winning Extra Virgin Olive Oil and delicious handmade chocolate Truffles and moulded chocolates.
We also sell table olives, Tapenades, Dukkah and seasonal Jams and Chutneys.
We are situated on 5 acres of land, nestled under Mount Bakewell. We have four acres of olives consisting of 5 different varieties, with the bulk of the grove being planted in 1998-99. We also have one acre of gardens surrounding our 100 year old + cottage, which has been recently placed on the Shire of York heritage inventory.
We are open most Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays 12 noon to 5pm, from March to December.
We are only 2.5km (4 mins drive) from the Tourist Bureau and have plenty of signage on the main roads to guide you when we are open.
We bought our lovely property in 2002, which included a badly neglected olive grove. The next 6 years have seen us rebuilding the grove into the standard you will see today when you visit.
Improvements to our home and the establishment of a large garden have also kept us busy, and our hope is to eventually open the garden to the public.
Paragliders and hang gliders are an attraction to our area. If you visit us later in the afternoons on fine sunny days, you maybe lucky enough to see these brave enthusiasts flying over Mount Bakewell.
You are very welcome to wander through our grove and sample our wares. We look forward to meeting you soon!

Sandalwood Yards & Tipperary School
Sandalwood was one of the early Colonys major exports, and hundreds of cutters made a living bush felling the wood which was brought to this yard in York. It was stacked upright in the open to dry, then carted to Fremantle to be shipped overseas. As local resources were exhausted the felling moved eastwards, and by 1896 the trade had moved to Kalgoorlie. The yard was taken over by Millars Timber & Trading Company and used to store jarah and other building materials.

Swing Bridge
The first temporary bridge over the Avon was built by convicts around 1853. The bridge has been rebuilt from time to time and was finally reconstructed in 1988.
According to the National Trust The original swing bridge, built in 1889, at this location was completely rebuilt to a modified design in 1988 due to safety concerns. While the new bridge remains an interesting element in the York precinct landscape it is not an accurate reconstruction and does not meet the Criteria for the Register of the National Estate in its own right.
The Swing Bridge is included in the Register as part of the `York Historic Town` listing

Wambyn Olive Farm
WAMBYN OLIVE FARM
Wambyn Organic Olive Farm began in 1994. Over the years we have planted about 1350 olive trees(about 10 different varieties) which are used to make cold-pressed, organic, extra-virgin olive oil and table olives(green and black). About 8 years ago we imported a genuine, hydraulic mat press to process our own oil. At the same time we had our whole property certified as organic by NASAA(no.6153).
We use only organic methods to fertilize and care for the trees. All irrigation is gravity fed. Our house electrical system is powered completely by the sun.
In the past we have done all our olive harvesting ourselves with the help of our friends. But over the last 2 years our crop has been so large that we are starting to introduce mechanical harvesting machinery.
We sell our product through various businesses in York and various organic and fresh food outlets around Perth. We also attend the City Farm Organic Market and the grower’s market in Montreal St. Fremantle.
Ruined Piano Sanctuary
In conjunction with our farming enterprise we are also the world’s first ruined piano sanctuary. Ruined pianos have been collected from around the state and placed in strategic positions around our 160acre farm. As the pianos degrade back into the environment their sounds and appearance become ever more fascinating. Ross Bolleter(pianist and composer) regularly plays these pianos and has recorded several CDs of ruined piano music. We organize ruined piano concerts every so often. The next one is on September 20, 2008.
People are welcome to visit by appointment only. We will give you a map to guide you around the old pianos. If you wish you can have a cup of tea or coffee and listen to some of the ruined piano music.(cost is $5/adult).

York Wines
Established in 1998 on the outskirts of York by Mick and Jeni Delich, York Wines' vineyard consists of 6.5 acres of planted vines on a 320-acre farm. The vineyard contains three varieties, Grenache, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Shiraz, all of which are dry grown, meaning that they receive no irrigation and grow relying on natural precipitation only. The vineyard is chemical and preservative free during the entire growing, wine making and bottling process.
The geographical location of York leads to significant temperature variations. During summer, temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius can be reached, with night time temperatures in winter falling as low as –5 C. Annual rainfall is 400mm. As a product of this environment, the resulting wines have an intense colour and flavour, which varies from vintage to vintage depending upon how much rain falls and average temperatures.
Why not drop in and sample some of the unique wines on offer?

Avon Walk Trail
Enjoy the tranquillity of the river reserve and take a 1.5 km stroll down stream to the magnificent permanent pool. The Avon River is one of our great natural assets with a beauty which varies with the season. The raging torrent in the flood time of Midwinter contrasts with the quiet serenity of dried up pools in its bed at the height of summer.
AVON WALK TRAIL
Welcome to the Avon Walk Trail.
The Avon River is one of our great natural assets with a beauty which varies with the season. The raging torrent in the flood time of midwinter contrasts with the quiet serenity of dried up pools in its bed at the height of summer.
During 1986 a proposal was presented to the York Shire Council that public access to the river should be provided between the Town Centre (Avon Park) and Mile Pool (a magnificent permanent pool one old fashioned mile from to the north from town)
Following council approval community support was enlisted and a start was made to the project. Several busy bees supported by rural Youth, Rotary and various individuals saw the creation of a walk trail enabling anybody (with little energy required) to take a stroll with a difference in York.
There is no need to walk the whole 1.5km although you are certainly encouraged to do so as the best lies towards Mile Pool.
Indicators on the path show you where can escape back to Avon Terrace as outlined on the accompanying map.
In 2002 The York Landcare District Council orchestrated a Green Corps Team with Wheatbelt Aboriginal Corporation support & Lottery West Funds. They were employed to upgrade the Trail. Future plans include increasing Shire and community support to tackle the greater long term tasks of rehabilitating the reserve area adjacent to the trail. Some York primary school students in conjunction with CSIRO are tackling the infestation of the escaped garden plant Bridal Creeper. If you are interested in assisting with the walk trail in any way contact the CEO of the York Shire on 9641 2233.
On your walk please help us by taking care of the scarce native flora still around and please keep an eye out for snakes. Above all enjoy the tranquility of the river reserve, identify the numerous bird species which abound, (bird brochure available from YVC) and do something positive for your personal fitness.
We trust you enjoy your walk as much as those who created it.

Beverley Soaring Society Inc.
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to soar over the Earth, circling in thermal air currents just like an eagle? Gliding gives you the perfect opportunity to stretch your wings and experience silent flight 3000 ft above the ground. With picture perfect views of the Avon Valley, a glider flight is the perfect way to get a bird’s eye view of the patchwork world below. A glider flight in Western Australia’s heartland region is a unique opportunity to enter this quiet, graceful, aerial world. It is quite common to circle over the picturesque Avon Valley, soaring in the same ‘thermals’ as our local wedge-tailed eagles. Our panel of qualified, highly experienced instructors is rostered each weekend to teach the skills of soaring to anyone from a teenager through to airline pilots with thousands of hours experience. Our instructors provide their time on a voluntary basis so flying costs are kept to a minimum. This ensures that everybody can have the opportunity to enjoy the experience of learning to fly. We offer air experience flights to allow you to experience the exhilarating three-dimensional world of glider flying. These flights not only allow budding glider pilots to "try before they buy", but are available to anyone who wishes to enjoy the experience of flight with the thrill of gentle soaring. On the day of your glider flight, you’ll meet your pilot and after being comfortably seated in the glider, you will be towed into the air behind one of our powerful tow-planes to a height of approximately 3000 feet. Once your instructor releases the tow-rope, you will enter the graceful world of silent flight. Our gliders are extremely well designed and you will quickly settle into a fully-enclosed cockpit with a fantastic view of the world – just remember to bring your camera! Your instructor will be seated behind you with total control of the aircraft, and due to the lack of engine noise you may have a normal conversation without shouting. Just sit back and take in the experience, shoot photos or video, or alternatively your instructor can begin teaching you some of the basics of flying and let you try the controls yourself. Depending on the weather conditions on the day, your flight will last between 20-30 minutes after which your instructor will gently land the glider right back at the airfield where you started. Whilst at the airfield, you may also use our outdoor BBQ area and other club facilities. Trial flights are available most weekends from Friday through to Sunday. To avoid disappointment or lengthy delays at the airfield it is preferable to book your flight prior to the day. You can make your booking by phoning our Booking Officer on 0407 385 361. Please Note: Due to the nature of gliding, exact flight times cannot be guaranteed. The maximum permissible passenger weight is 110 kg and minimum age for children is 12 years old.
